The Eiffel Tower is the global iconic symbol of French culture and the pride of Paris. It is located on the Champ de Mars in Paris. It was built in 1889 as an entrance arch to the World’s Fair to exhibit that iron could be as strong as stone while being lighter. This was also held to honor the 100th anniversary of the French Revolution. It was designed by Alexandre Gustave Eiffel and named after him. Alexandre Gustave Eiffel was a French engineer specialized in metallic buildings who also created the internal frame for the Statue of Liberty in the year 1885.

The construction of the Tower started on January 26, 1887, and completed on March 31, 1889. Tower weighs 10,000 tons with 7,300 tons of iron. It is 320 meters high and has 1710 steps. The first floor has 360 steps, the second floor has 1060 steps but the third floor is reachable only through lifts.

The Tower is painted every seven years protecting it from rusting and 60 tons of paint is required to cover it. The Eiffel Tower shrinks 6 inches in winter and expands 3.25 inches due to solar heat. The names of 72 prominent French scientists and famous personalities are engraved on the sides of Eiffel Tower just beneath the first platform, 18 names per side. Nearly 7 million guests visit Eiffel Tower every year.
